Profile
The Community Museum (Museo Comunitario) is a cultural cornerstone located in the heart of San Nicolas, housed in the beautifully restored Nicolaas Store—a historic landmark built around 1940. This intimate museum offers a deeply personal look at the island’s southern heritage through a collection largely composed of artifacts and memorabilia donated by local families. It serves as a narrative of the community’s evolution, particularly reflecting the multicultural influences brought by the oil industry in the mid-20th century. Unlike traditional museums, this space is designed as an “object-based exhibition” that has been reimagined by local artists to tell the story of the Afro-Caribbean and South American communities that shaped the unique identity of the “Sunrise City.”
