Profile
Smart Community Aruba is a visionary residential pilot project located in Kibaima, Santa Cruz, designed as an “Open Innovation Platform” for sustainable island living. Founded in 2014 by a consortium of seven key partners—including the Government of Aruba, FCCA, WEB, ELMAR, SETAR, Utilities Aruba, and the Dutch research institute TNO—the community serves as a real-world testing ground for green technologies. The neighborhood consists of 20 innovative homes where residents actively participate in research on energy efficiency, water conservation, and smart-grid integration. By monitoring daily usage in the Caribbean’s unique climate, the project aims to develop scalable, affordable, and environmentally friendly business models that can be exported to other island nations globally.
