Profile
A legendary institution in San Nicolas, Charlie’s BarClick to open side panel for more information is arguably the most famous bar in Aruba, renowned not just for its food but for its incredible history and decor. Founded in 1941 by Dutch couple Charlie and Marie Brouns, this former watering hole for oil refinery workers and sailors has evolved into a living museum. Every inch of the interior—walls, ceilings, and behind the bar—is plastered with decades of international memorabilia left behind by visitors, including license plates, business cards, hats, and patches.
Now run by the third generation of the family (Charlie III), the bar maintains its authentic “dive bar” charm while serving high-quality seafood and steaks. It is famous for its “Honeymoon Sauce,” a fiery homemade hot sauce that pairs perfectly with their signature Boiled Shrimp and Scampi. While it is a bit of a trek from the hotel strip, a visit to Charlie’s Bar is considered a rite of passage for visitors, offering a glimpse into the “Sunrise City’s” rugged past and a chance to leave your own mark by adding a personal item to the collection.
