Profile
Located in the quiet inland district of Paradera, The LionFish Snack ArubaClick to open side panel for more information is perhaps the most sustainable dining spot on the entire island. Founded by professional lionfish hunter Patrick van Brakel, this humble “snack shack” operates with a singular mission: “Eat Them To Beat Them.” The restaurant exclusively serves Lionfish, an invasive species that threatens Aruba’s coral reefs, turning an environmental problem into a culinary delicacy. Open only on Saturdays, this hidden gem offers a simple but flavorful menu where the fish is the star. Because the lionfish are speared individually by divers (often Patrick himself), the supply is fresh and limited. Guests can enjoy unique dishes like “Lionfish Wings” (the fins are fried crisp like potato chips), perfectly battered nuggets (kibbeling), and fresh ceviche. It offers a rustic, educational, and friendly backyard atmosphere where you can learn about reef conservation while enjoying some of the cleanest, whitest fish meat you will ever taste.
